Mr Punch

Mr Punch Audiobooks is a boutique publishing house based in Oxfordshire, England. Proudly independent and passionate about the world of spoken word entertainment.

Setting ourselves apart from the traditional, single-voice recordings of published books, we strive to offer something unique and engaging. Our catalogue is filled with broadcast-quality productions that echo the style of traditional radio programmes, featuring a diverse cast of voices to bring each story to life.

Our journey began over twenty years ago, when we produced and published a huge catalogue of titles across multiple genres. Now after a hiatus, we are thrilled to be back, ready to share our passion for audio storytelling with a new generation of listeners.

‍We offer high-quality, dramatised audiobooks that are often only created by a select few institutions. We believe in the power of audio to transport listeners to different worlds, to illuminate new perspectives, and to make the written word come alive in a whole new way.

Join us on this exciting journey as we continue to produce captivating audio content that is not just heard, but experienced.

Welcome to the world of Mr Punch Audiobooks

Stewart Richards

I've had an incredible journey in the media industry spanning over 40 years, taking on such diverse roles as film producer, television executive, publisher, writer, and even actor. It all started when I joined the National Youth Theatre at just 17 years old, and later received an Arts Council trainee director fellowship, which led me to work at Nottingham Playhouse and Lincoln Theatre Royal.

After a brief stint at Birmingham Repertory Theatre, I decided to pursue my acting passion and underwent three years of training at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA). However, my interests eventually shifted towards film and television production, and I've enjoyed producing feature films and TV programmes (drama and documentary) for broadcasters including the BBC, Channel 4, and ITV.

Over the years, I've been fortunate to work on a variety of captivating film and TV productions, such as, "Juliet Bravo," "Bergerac," and "A Woman of Substance." In addition to my production roles, I also worked as a Production Executive for Film on Four/Channel 4 and was part of the team that helped launch Carlton Television (later ITV).

I took great pride in nurturing new talents, and my work with first-time writers, producers and directors resulted in the production of over 16 short films. Among these, "Dear Rosie" stood out and received nominations for both an Oscar and a BAFTA for Best Short Film.

I also co-authored the best-selling book "The Great Train Robbery – the definitive account" and co-produced a documentary on the subject for ITV Studios.

In recent times, I've produced a number of programmes for BBC Radio 4 including “Theatre on 4” using the innovative binaural technology. I was also commissioned to write the book "Curtain Down at Her Majesty’s," the fascinating story of Queen Victoria's final days, which I then produced as a five-part drama for BBC Radio 4, which was selected as ‘Pick of the Week’ .

In addition to my roles at Mr Punch Audiobooks I’m currently engaged as the editor of "The Great Chronicle of England", a multi-media publishing project that offers a unique eyewitness history of England from the time of the civil war to the present day. This project allows me to continue my passion for storytelling and preserving historical narratives for generations to come.
